Reeves Point near Kingscote

Reeves Point is the site of first official European settlement in SA in July 1836. It was a very harsh & isolated & settlers struggled to stay alive. Eventually some moved on to the next settlement which became Adelaide (those settlers arrived Xmas Day 1836)

This Mulberry tree (cutting) was brought out by the settlers & somehow still survives today, 176 years later WHAT A SURVIVOR!!!!

This is all that is left of the first Post office in SA

Water was so scarce they had to pay for it & the well was kept under lock & key!!!
