Ouyen - Victoria

Today we headed for Ouyen which was established in 1906 after the Melbourne to Mildura line was built.

Art deco Roxy theatre, has had a complete revamp. Recently they showed "Red Dog" & had to have 4 sessions, people came from all over the district to see the movie

Ouyen is famous for being the home of "great vanilla slice" & of course we had to try one just to make sure

The reason the Mallee was the last region to be settled in Victoria is evident in the town's symbol - the mallee stump -- Australia's largest. The scrubby territory was once covered in the drought resistant eucalypt (mallee), which proved very difficult to uproot & destroy.
