Rapid bay - Fleurieu peninsula

Making our way towards Cape Jervis & ferry crossing to Kangaroo island

Stopped at Victor Harbour for "Fish & chips" from the original fish shop. Toooo windy to sit on the beach & feed the seagulls. Indoor cafe today!!!

Arrived Rapid bay early afternoon & we were surprised to find a nice camp spot with loads of green grass, $6 each

Until 1980's Rapid bay had a very large limestone quarry, hence the long jetty for loading ships

Colonel Light was the first person to do some graffiti on a boulder. "W.L 1836". He carved his initials after he first stepped ashore from his ship "The Rapid", in the new colony "I have hardly seen a place I like better".

A small hamlet is nestled snug between the long sandy beach & towering cliffs. There are about 20 houses here that housed the workers from the quarry. they are still in very good condition & maybe have been sold off for holiday homes!!
