David James Jones "The Possum Man" was born in NZ & came over here in his twenties to try his luck @ shearing, but the depression was on & he couldn't find work & he didn't have enough money to pay the union fees & no-one would give him a start without it. He went bush & wandered around the Mallee & Murray / Darling basin for over 50 years. Farms would leave food out for him occassionally & he would repair fences, chop wood. He was hardly ever seen by anyone & only 2 people actually got to meet him once he went bush. The winter of 1982 was extremely cold & he died alone in the bush @ 81 years old
