The Macarthur landscape is dominated by Mt Eccles an extinct volcano to west of town & ceased activity around 6,500 years ago. The township dates back to 1857 & was once known as Eumeralla an aboriginal name.
We decided to head inland to Macarthur 55 kms NW Port Fairy & camp at the Mt Eccles National park
