Walk with history around Penola

Gammon cottage.  Built in 1860's

Detached kitchen was a common feature of buildings of those times, with constant threat of life & property from open fires

Friendly ginger cat

Sharam's cottage, 2nd cottage for Sharam family, as the family grew they needed more space & beds.
14 children were born & bred in these 2 cottages.  Ellen lived to the ripe old age of 92, which was a very good innings for those hard times & era

1889 - 1895

Sharam's cottage - original slab cottage - first home of Christopher & Ellen Sharam built 1850

Vege garden out the back of the Sharman cottage, certainly would have needed it to feed the brood of 14 kids

Petticoat lane, so called because of the number of women & girls that lived in this street.
Carefully conserved area of Penola with a number of original cottages dating from 1850.  Declared a State Heritage area in 1997
